You will not outrank Chess.com for “game review.” You can still get the review you wanted: a free look at a game you already played, without a subscription.

Chess.com built the board, the matchmaking, and the Game Review most players know. That last piece is also a Premium lever. Unlimited reviews, deeper engine settings, and some of the nicer coaching extras are easier to reach if you pay.

A Chess.com game review alternative does not need to copy the whole site. It needs to do one job well: take a finished game from your public archive and tell you, move by move, what changed.

What you lose without Premium — and what you can still get

On a free Chess.com account, Game Review is capped. The exact daily allowance is not a stable public number, but anyone who plays a regular diet of rapid or blitz has seen the upgrade prompt. Premium (and Diamond, for the deepest cloud analysis) unlocks more of Chess.com’s own stack.

What you can still get for free, elsewhere:

• Move classifications and an accuracy score
• The engine’s preferred move when yours was not it
• A coach-style note on your turns, not a dump of every variation
• A way back into a position so you can sit with it

That is enough to learn from a loss. It is not Chess.com lessons, puzzles, or cloud analysis at Diamond depth — and it does not pretend to be.

A free alternative that uses your Chess.com games

Chesstastic is built around that gap. Connect with your Chess.com username — public games only, no password — and review any game in the list. Stockfish runs locally in the browser, so there is no analysis subscription to attach.

1. Go to chesstastic.online and open Game Review.
2. Enter the same username you play under on Chess.com.
3. Choose a finished game from your archive.
4. Pick an engine depth and start the review.

Have a link instead of the full history? Paste the Chess.com game URL. Have a PGN from somewhere else? Paste the moves.

How this compares to importing into Lichess

Lichess is the other honest answer to “review chess.com games without premium.” Export PGN, import, request computer analysis. The engine work is free and the reports are serious. The extra steps are the tax: you leave Chess.com, you create or use a Lichess account, and you repeat the export every time.

If you already study on Lichess, keep doing that. If you want to stay next to your Chess.com username and skip the PGN shuttle, a dedicated review tool is the shorter path.

Reviewing a game vs studying a position

Game Review looks backward: a complete game, grades, the turning points. Practice Mode is different. You set up a position from study and see what a stronger player would do — with evaluation — so you can understand the idea. It is for training, not for a live rated game. Using an engine during a Chess.com game is cheating; Chess.com will treat it that way.
